Leonardo di Caprio portraying Jordan Belfort in The Wolf of Wall Street
Actually, now that I think about it, being single and having to pursue the partner you (think you) want also takes a bit of sales and marketing skills, especially if you're up against competition who could be either better looking or financially better off than you.
Referencing to the article on Mr. Belfort's explanation on the correct response to "Sell me this pen," you might have started off "advertising" yourself and your qualities, but what if your qualities aren't what your potential partner realizes he or she needs? Logic would dictate to you that your qualities are what they need, but they may not have the same logic as you yet. This is where you have to find out what he or she needs. Have they come out from a bad relationship? Are they looking for a stable person to settle down with? What other conditions are they in now or came out from?
It may not be easy to ask directly on what their needs are and what they want. That would take away the fun and romance of courtship, wouldn't it? So this is where you have to learn to listen well to find out their needs.
What if you're doing everything right but the person isn't responding the way you'd prefer? Unlike most brands which have a range of products and prices which cater to customers of different tastes and budgets, you are your sole brand and product. Therefore, yours is a niche market. If a "customer" isn't that interested in what you have to offer despite your best efforts, then that only means that he or she isn't the "customer" you're looking for. So, don't be disheartened and lose confidence in yourself.
Just my two cents after being a lil inspired by that article. :)
